In 2024, IARC started developing a project that aims to conduct research to support the vision to reduce the burden of skin cancer in PWA, with a major but not exclusive focus on the African setting. This programme of work will be delivered through collaborations with researchers and institutions across the African continent. The programme of work spans multiple research areas, including basic biology and epidemiology, for primary prevention and secondary and tertiary prevention of skin cancer among PWA in Africa.

The project is structured around four Work Packages.
